XBOX 360- Tiger Woods 10

I finally got around to downloading the demo on Live last night and after playing for about an hour I came away very impressed. I know EA is evil and they put out the same games each year with minor improvements just to get another 60 bucks from us. My friend, let's call him Stan, will not even look at another Tiger Woods game. For me, this is one franchise that I do not mind supporting year after year.

The demo only has 4 courses. Two from Bethpage Black and two from Turnberry. Right from the first fly over I can see an improvement in the graphics. Everything just looks so much more real this year. A whole new lighting scheme adds to the graphics and there are times when this looks almost like a real golf broadcast. This year EA also included weather in the game so there are times when you will be playing in the rain. There are some nice effects when it is raining too. The ball will create little splashes when it hits the fairway just like in real life. The rain also drastically changes putting. When it is raining hard you really need to put a lot of extra power into your putt. The ball also creates a trail of water as it rolls to the hole which looks great.

I am going to play some more this weekend and will add more information to this post if I find other stuff worth mentioning. I can say for a fact that this is a must buy for anyone who loves golf.

New iPhone Games

I recently purchased Need for Speed, Ferrari GT and Missile Command. I hope to have some reviews up soon. If you cannot wait I can tell you for certain that all three are worth the purchase price. Need for Speed is a whopping $9.99 but once you start playing you realize that this is certainly a really good price for this game.

iPhone - Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf

The long anticipated (at least by me) release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf has finally arrived and it does not disappoint. That is not to say that it is perfect or that there is no room for improvement because there is but for its first appearance on the iPhone there is a lot to love here.

When you first launch Tiger Woods you will be asked to create a new player. While the console versions have dozens of customizable options the choices here are very limited. You get to choose the shade of skin color, name and clothe your golfer. This is a cell phone game so this is acceptable.

Once you have created your character you are off the play some golf. There are seven courses included which is an awesome amount for a 10 dollar game. Some of the world’s most famous courses are here like St Andrews, TPC Sawgrass, Pebble Beach and TPC Boston. Every course looks great and has a better than expected draw distance. The grass and trees look great from afar but when you get up close to anything in this game the textures are extremely blurry. This is really the only knock on the graphics that are otherwise great.

You have the choice to “Play Now” or to join the “PGA Tour”. Play Now lets you select what course you want to play and configure the amount of players, tees and whether to play the front or back nine or a full 18 holes. All seven courses are available from the get go so you do not have to wait to unlock courses. For a cell phone game this is perfect. The PGA Tour lets you go out and challenge a field of professional golfers through an entire PGA season. Included in the game are some famous names like Annika Sorrenstam, Vjiay Singh, Natalie Gulbis, Retief Goosen and of course Tiger Woods.

The biggest addition to Tiger Woods PGA Tour for the iPhone is the new swing mechanic. When you are set to take a shot a curved meter appears and you will need to drag your finger down the meter and then back up to take a shot. How straight the shot is depends on how straight you drag your finger through the shot. You can add a power boost to your shot by slightly pausing when your finger reaches the bottom of the meter and then sliding it up to complete your swing. The ball turns red if you did this correctly but wait too long and the ball will turn blue and your shot will be underpowered. You can also add a draw or fade by curving your finger in either direction when you bring your finger forward to finish your swing. The whole process takes a couple of rounds to really get comfortable with but once you do you will realize just how genius it is.

As you play through each hole you will earn money for hitting the fairway, green, scoring under par as well as many other good shots. This money can be spent to upgrade your equipment just like in the console games. The equipment choices are limited and what you really are buying is just a better star rating for each piece of equipment. On the course these upgrades really are helpful and will improve your scoring so you will definitely want to take the time and do this.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour also tracks all the stats that you would expect. Also in this version are the Trophy Balls. Only 9 are included but this is just icing on a complete package so you will not hear any complaints from me.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour will cost you $9.99 in the app store but with all that is included the price is definitely justified. The only real issue I can complain about is the blurry textures when the camera zooms in too far. I highly recommend getting this game if you are a fan of golf.

Use Windows 7 for FREE for over a year!!

The title does not lie! When Microsoft releases the Windows 7 RC in a few days anyone that downloads it can use it until June 1, 2010! That is 5 months longer than they gave us for the RC of Vista. Why is Microsoft doing this? I do not know and Microsoft is not saying why either. It really cant hurt them because once people make the switch to Windows 7 they will be hooked and will fork over the money once the time runs out. Also, the RC is the Ultimate version which has every singe feature unlocked so users may very well purchase a more feature rich version when the time comes to fork over the money. Either way, go get the RC and use it for free for 13 months!

New PSP on the way?

There have been a ton of rumors about Sony prepping a new PSP and here is yet another one. There are some interesting things in this article that makes me believe the information may be a bit more concrete.

I really like the look of this if it is indeed going to look like this. I cannot believe they still are not going to give us a second analog stick! If this thing had 2 analog stick it would be perfect for 1st and 3rd persons shooters. With just the one I always found it awkward to play those types of games.

As many of you know I recently sold my PSP. Maybe I got out at the right time. Now I can get the new and cooler version later this year.

1,000,000,000

The App Store hit the billion download mark today!! I am pretty sure I did not win the contest to be the billionth download but I certainly tried. I downloaded a bunch of free apps today plus a few paid ones. I will post some reviews later this week for a couple of the apps.

Squidoo!!

Check out my profile page on Squidoo. I will be using Squidoo to post reviews and guides that appear on my two blogs. I figure that the visitors that Squidoo attracts do not want to scour blog posts for the information that they are looking for but instead just want to do a quick search in one place and find the info they want. I am hoping that this will also bring in more readers here as well.

Check out my profile on Squidoo! You will find my lenses at the bottom of my profile page.

Did you ever want to know how many toilets were flushed today?

If you ever wanted to know the answer to that or dozens of other strange and interesting stats just hop on over to Worldometers. Not sure how legit these stats are but I have no reason not to believe them. If nothing else, it is just pretty cool.

Did you know there are only 15,568 days left until the world runs out of oil? YIKES!

Google brings 3D to your browser

Google released a plug in today for IE, Safari, Firefox and Chrome that brings 3D graphics to the web browser. There is not much out there yet but you can see some examples on how this can be used from the link below. It does look pretty cool and could lead to some great browser based games as well as other cool 3D interfaces.

Squidoo

I wrote my first "lens" on Squidoo tonight. I stumbled upon Squidoo this morning while reading through some blogs. Squidoo is a place where regular people like you and I can write overview pages called "lenses". These pages can literally be about anything that interests you. Squidoo monetizes these pages with Google Adsense and if your lens attracts a lot of views you can make some money. What is really cool is that Squidoo gives you the option of either collecting the money for yourself or donating it to charity or any combination that you choose.

My first lens is linked below so check it out and let me know what you think.

Zune HD?

There have been a ton of stories on the rumored Zune HD. No one knows if it is real or fake and Microsoft is not saying a word. If this thing is real and it does what the rumors are saying it does this could easily be the best player out there. Microsoft is due for a really good piece of hardware and this could be it. Now they just need to fix the Zune marketplace because that thing is a mess!

Time Warner drops plan to cap internet use.

Time Warner has decided against its plans to cap their customers internet usage. This is great news for anyone who ever goes online. I do not think other internet companies can be successfull in light of Time Warner's failure. I use Comcast and have a 250 GB cap which is reasonable but should be eliminated. Maybe this will spur Comcast to drop their cap as well. Personally, I use a lot of bandwidth a month and all for LEGAL reasons. I have my Netflix subscription and I also subscribe to MLB.tv so I stream a huge amount of data every day. Let us just hope that this will be the last we here of usage caps.

My PSP

I listed my PSP, 16 games and 2 movies on Ebay last week and it closed with a respectable final bid of $265.00. Unfortunately, the winning bidder kimberly26205, refused to pay me because she was under the impression it was the PSP 3000. I clearly stated in my auction that is was the 2nd generation and even answered not one but two emails that she sent me asking me if it was the PSP 3000! She has a great feedback record so I thought things would have gone smooth but seeing that Ebay does not let sellers leave negative feedback that 100 percent positive may be misleading. She actually sent me a threatening email too stating that she was not going to pay AND she was reporting me to Ebay. Reporting me??? I told her that would be great as I am going to have to file with Ebay to get my seller fees back so the sooner they know that she broke the contract the better.

So, I plan on listing it again at the end of this weekend. I will post a link to my auction when I have set it up.

Dell rebrands the mini-9 to draw in business users

It looks like Dell is trying to get business users on the netbook bandwagon with their rebranded Mini 9. You can find Dell's latest netbook in the small business section of their site but they now call it the Vostro A90. Not sure if many people will bite on this one. I am a BIG fan of netbooks (I am typing this on my Asus 1000HE) but I do not think I would want to use one for my business.

Infection Control Keyboard

Take a look at your keyboard. See all that crud on it? Imagine all the germs and bacteria that are crawling around on it right now. Better yet, peek over your cube wall at that really dirty guy, let's call him Bill, that lives next door to you. Take a look at his keyboard. There is no doubt that there is some sort of super virus breeding in his keyboard. This is where the Medigenic Infection Control keyboard come in handy.

The keyboard is completely flat with the keys imprinted on it. No tiny spaces for food and whatever else may fall off Bill's face to get in to. If something does drop on the keyboard then you can just simply wipe it away. I like this idea a lot. I wonder how difficult it would be to learn how to type on this thing though?

AT&T extending exclusive iPhone deal?

According to the scitech blog AT&T wants to extend the iPhone exclusive deal with Apple. I think this may be the most obvious statement in the world. Of course they want to extend it and they will give Apple whatever they want. Imagine if Verizon gets the iPhone? Let's face it, in just about every part of the country Verizon's network destroys AT&T's. The iPhone is the ONLY reason I am even a customer of AT&T. Well, that and the fact my girlfriend uses AT&T too but that can change if other carriers pick up the iPhone.

What do you think? Will AT&T offer the world to keep the iPhone on their network only?

Check out the SciTechBlog here.

iPhone Battery Killing WiFi?

Check out this article on CNET.. Some users are reporting that when the iPhone battery heats up that it kills their WiFi connection and it takes a while before they can connect again. I use OS v.2.21 and have not had any issues like this on my WiFi network. I have had my phone really heat up at times too while playing games. How about you? Have you had any issue like this?

iPhone - Star Trek Countdown

As most of you probably already know there is a new Star Trek movie coming out this summer. It takes place before the original Star Trek series and we get to see how all of the main characters became who they are. From what I have seen so far it does look like it may be good.

So I was looking through the app store on my iPhone and came across a Star Trek Countdown application. At first I thought it was just going to be some dumb counter telling me how many days I have to wait to see the movie. To my surprise it was actually a comic book series that is a prequel to the new movie! For .99 cents I thought it would be worth it to check out.

The comic book has 91 pages so there is a good deal to read here. The illustrations are great and I am really enjoying the story. I think only fans of the Star Trek universe will be interested in the story so if Star Trek is not your thing then there is nothing really to see here. You have three options as to how you move through the "pages". You can set them to slide, fade or flip. I personally find the fade effect the most pleasing. There are 4 episodes so far and each costs a buck so if you get hooked you will need to spend several dollars to read everything. I have only checked out the first one but I will be downloading the rest as I think it is worth it.

Happy Easter - The Masters - iPhone

For my readers who celebrate Easter I hope you all have a very happy day! For those that do not celebrate Easter I hope you have a great Sunday.

Anyone going to watch the Masters? I am heading out to my girlfriends house where I hope to catch some of the action but I know golf is not for everyone so I will not bore them too much. This will also provide me an opportunity to check out The Masters iPhone application. For those golf fans out there that own an iPhone you can download the app for free from the App Store. I played with it a bit at work on Thursday and Friday but I did not have a good 3G signal so the quality of the stream suffered. You can watch live action from 5 different holes on the course. They also have a leader board so even if you do not want to stream you can take a quick peak as to who is winning!

Enjoy!

Note: I will soon be closing the Amoretech blog so if you want to continue to follow me please sign up here.

Asus 1000HE Review

I have been using my new Asus 1000HE for about a week now and I can say without a doubt that this netbook is a winner. Everything about this machine is fantastic. It looks great, performs better than expected and has the perfect price point at just under 400 dollars.

The netbook market is very crowded. Just about every manufacturer is now making netbooks including the big boys like Dell and HP. Asus was a pioneer in this market segment and their experience has definitely paid off with the 1000HE.

The first thing you will notice is that the 1000HE is a great looking netbook. The high gloss black finish on the outside makes this machine look like a million bucks. The chasis feels very solid and there is no flex in the keyboard. Everything here is made very well. It does weigh more than most netbooks at 3.2 pounds but that includes the 6 cell battery so it is acceptable.

The 1000HE uses the new Atom 1.66 GHz (667MHz FSB) processor which is a incremental improvement over the standard Atom 1.6 GHz. Honestly, I couldn't see a difference. The 1000HE does perform very well though. Asus preloads the 1000HE with Star Office which runs very well. I also installed Word and Excel 2007 and the 10000HE handled them just fine.

I mainly use the 1000HE for internet access while commuting. I have an hour long train ride each way to work so having the ability to go online is really nice. The 10 inch screen is the sweet spot for netbooks and the 1000HE's does not disappoint. The matte black screen looks great and is easily viewable in direct sunlight.

The 1000HE also comes standard with a 160GB hard drive, 1.3 megapixel web cam, Built-in 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for easy wireless connectivity. It also has 3 x USB 2.0 ports, 1 x VGA port, 2 x Audio input/output ports, 1 x RJ-45 port, Kensington Lock port. The new chiclet-style keyboard is 92% the size of regular notebooks keyboard which makes it very comfortable to type on.

The battery life on this netbook is phenomenal. Asus claims that it gets 9 hours per charge but a more realistic number is about 7.5 hours. That is a long time between charges and plenty to get through an entire day while mobile.

The touch pad supports multi touch. You can do all sorts of neat things just by using the pad. For example, you can zoom in and out of pictures by pinching your fingers together. I am not a big fan though as you can sometimes trigger the wrong command by accident which is frustrating. Luckily, the options are configurable so you can shut off certain commands while leaving the ones you want to use on.

If you are in the market for a netbook then definitely give the Asus 1000HE a look, you will not be disappointed.
